Shoe Distribution from our 2nd Container

12/6/2014

We first distributed shoes from our first container back in Nov 2013 now it’s been full circle and we are here again! So many people from our community showed up at our warehouse in Coquitlam to sort shoes for our distribution. Once in the DR, we also had so much help from the locals here who’ve showed up to help us unpack, sort, and distribute the shoes! Not only were we able to distribute more shoes to the students at our partner school, Centro Educativo Toribio, but we were able to visit many other schools on this trip and spread the love even further.

Some schools are government run and while the look nice and clean, the kids that attend them often come from the poorest of backgrounds. It really brought smiles to our faces and warmed up our hearts to be able to put shoes on the feet of these incredible children. We had kids who’s shoes were literally falling off their feet, had holes big enough for the toes to stick out, and were in very dire need of new shoes. In the Dominican Republic, kids must have shoes in order to be able to go to school. This makes a pair of shoes more than just a pair shoes.

A pair of shoes can literally change a child’s life and allow them to get an education. We’re constantly humbled by how supportive and respectful everyone here is. They help each other through the line up, are respectful and extremely grateful for the help they receive. We had entire families show up to help sort and distribute shoes and it really just solidified for us that what we’re doing on the ground, and what you’ve done by donating your shoes to us, has changed and will continue to change so many lives!

Hello, my name is Kelly, when I met Ruben and his family, I was deeply affected by the poverty they live in, but even more so by the amount of love I felt from them. These people and these kids have nothing, absolutely nothing, but they were so full of love and full of joy. I wanted to do something that would help impact their lives the way they had impacted mine!
