We believe that learning changing lives!
In the Dominican Republic, more than 40% of children are uneducated and only 60% of children complete their primary education; the average dropout age is 8 years old.
These children are unable to reach their full potential due to low levels of education and high levels of poverty. Without a chance at an education, the cycle of poverty perpetuates.
Since 2014 we have been watching our students grow and develop so much through the propriety programs we have initiated at our partner elementary school, Centro Educativo Toribio. Over the course of just one year we have recorded a 20% improvement in Literacy and have seen significant growth in learning capacity along with confidence, self-esteem and leadership skills.
In 2018, the Dominican Ministry of Education ranked our school as the #1 school in the country!
Our students are growing up fast and are starting to age out of our Elementary School losing access to Education and a safe learning place at the most vulnerable years of their lives.
For them, we are building a Secondary School! Our goal is to open the Secondary School for the next school year beginning August 2020.
We have secured ownership of the land and construction is well under-way.
JUNE 2020 UPDATE:
Physical Distancing on the job site! We are moving forward with construction of our Secondary School and getting very close to the finish line.
The new school is looking good with paint on the walls and flooring mostly complete! Our second Noni's Kitchen (which will feed another 200 students nourishing meals every school day) has nice counter tops, cabinets, and a good amount of space for our chef Cruz. The next step is for our contractor to finish the bathrooms along with all of the finishing details.
We are now only $9,700 away from completion!
We would really love your support in helping raise these final funds. We too have been hurt by Covid; not being able to host two of our annual fundraising events (Ruben’s Classic Hockey Tournament along with our regular Ruben’s Ruckus). Our team has been working hard to come with creative ways to complete the fundraising and now we are so close to finish line.
We would love to have you involved in this legacy project, in any capacity which you can give. There are naming opportunities for larger donations but every little bit counts. 100% of the funds donated will go towards employing local contractors and building this school for our students. Please join us is creating long-lasting permanent change and being a part of something bigger than yourself.
