Ruben's

open

Our inaugural Ruben's Open Charity Golf Tournament was a remarkable success!

The sound of live music and the sight of vintage cars created a sense that you were stepping not just back in time but into something special... from the array of plaid trousers to the bling of pearls, the roaring twenties were in full swing at the inaugural Ruben’s Open Thursday July 18th at Morgan Creek Golf Course.

Produced by the city’s premiere event agency, The Social Concierge, there wasn’t a detail that was missed. The gorgeous ladies brought their vintage glam and the handsome gentlemen represented Bagger Vance in true style with classic golf attire. Preceded by a day of down-pouring rain, the skies opened just in time and the sun was brightly shinning with a cool breeze making it a perfect day on the greens. After the excitement of the Mega Putt, golfers ventured out onto the course and spent the day grazing over delicious eats from Cactus Club, The Wooden Spoon and Rocco’s Deli who provided their own organic tomato pasta sauce as a take-away gift. Along with the grazing, spirits were also heightened with a premium whiskey tasting from Monkey Shoulder Whiskey y presented by Convergent Planning Group in addition to a legendary Cocalero unique ritualistic cocktail provided by Chad & Co Mortgages

Continuing along the course throughout the afternoon, golfers were all smiles while filling up their candy bags with fresh candy provided by TD Bank, were able to put their feet up for a minute to relax in the Cutler 1920s lounge and captured memorable shots with Magik Moments photography. The fun on the course continued as golfers were encouraged to take on the Ruben’s Shoes hole in barefeet, to use Vintage Golf Clubs for the Closest to the Pin (KP), and bring their best shot for the longest drive and the $25,000 hole in one prize. As a Tee gift, golfers were treated to a custom-tailored dress shirt from Indochino along with a copy of BC BUSINESS TOP 100 edition.

Following a full round of golf and fine eats, the evening was only getting started as the sun set with laughter buzzing from the patio. Refreshing cocktails and Live Jazz music performed by the Jennifer Hershman trio set the scene for the Gala Dinner presented by ONNI. Guests enjoyed a delicious meal and were inspired by Ruben’s Shoes founder Kelly Strongitharm who delivered a powerful inspirational speech recognized with a standing ovation. An electric buzzed filled the room and entire evening was full of energy as guests engaged in conversation and bid on exciting prizes including a private dinner with Chopped Canada Winner and MasterChef finalist Michael Vargaalong with a weekend stay at the luxurious Big White House on Galiano Island and many other unique items.

We believe that all children deserve access to education and are currently building a secondary school in the Dominican Republic for all of their students who are beginning to age out of our elementary school. The capital campaign is our largest project to date; the secondary school is expected to open August 2020 for an anticipated 200 students.

Thank you to all of the Legends who participated and supported our inaugural Ruben's Open Charity Golf Tournament! Together we were able to raise $50,000 (NET) towards the build of our secondary school in the Dominican Republic.
